Chinese president Xi-Jinping arrived in Macau
Communist leader in China Xi-Jinping came to Macau on Wednesday for a three-day visit to the gambling hub of Macau and met former Portuguese colony to mark the 20th anniversary of the old colony which became controlled by china since 1999.
The Leader was expected to reinforce policies and laws especially loyalty of the inhabitants unlike the former British colony of Hong Kong that has been blocked by pro-democracy protesters since last June et to make sure this would not happen in Macau.
Xi arrived this afternoon in the International Airport which is based on the South Island of the territory to annonces his measures.
But several journalists from Hong Kong have been turned down to entry to Macau because they were suspected of supporting Hong Kong protests. SCMP journalist Phila Siu saw his authorisation of entry that was denied and explains that this would especially be to two different stories that he published on Macau.
Pro-Beijing government in Macau “didn’t take any risks” about the journalists and press conferences and picked them out.
There’s also a Hong Kong resident that was arrested by mainland police last week while he was crossing into Macau on a newly built bridge linking it to Hong Kong and the city of Zhuhai.
Majority of the medias people faced lengthy questioning and had their identification cards photographed as they arrived in the city, according to a Reuters reporter.
Communist leader’s visit is also his longest official trip to Macau. It will include meetings with government officials and business representatives, as well as the swearing-in of Macau’s newly chosen Beijing-backed leader, Ho Iat-seng.
A bit like Hong Kong but on the side of Macao that also has their pro-democracy activists, they say they’re moderate and admit residents do not see political reform as a priority and are frightened by the violence of protests in neighboring Hong Kong.
To get back to the event, it will be this Friday. Macau was given back to China on the 20th December 1999.
